Why Scrub Your Raw Data?
When you download your raw DNA file from a provider like 23andMe, the text file often contains a header section (lines starting with #). This header frequently includes your name, the date the file was generated, and the firmware version used to sequence it.
If you intend to upload this file to an open-source database like GEDmatch to find relatives or run admixture utilities, you may not want your full legal name permanently associated with the raw data file itself. Stripping these header lines has zero impact on the actual genetic sequence data (the A, C, T, Gs) but adds a layer of privacy.
